Do you have chickens and rats? Or chickens and wild birds that are eating more feed than the chickens? Here is the solution. But before you buy look for the different versions of our feeder, this is the small exteropr versopm, there is a soft close version, an interior version, and a soft close exterior version. There are also multi packed feeders that can lower the shipping costs.

This is the small original version of the feeder but there are many different versions in two sizes.  Look in the Small Rat Proof Chicken Feeder Category for the soft close versions, the interior versions, and the soft close exterior versions. Check out the multi packs for cheaper shipping.   We don't sell a lot of small feeders so read the reviews on the very popular medium feeder by clicking here.   It is the same feeder except 4" narrower across the front. The exterior version has only one difference from the interior version, the lower front panel is held back 1/4" by inserting a couple of hex nuts and running a screw in to hold them in place.

The small metal rat proof treadle chicken feeder is the same height and depth as the medium rat proof treadle chicken feeder but the width is 7" instead of 11". It holds around 12 # of laying pellets and weighs around 12# packed for shipping. The small rat proof treadle chicken feeder is perfect for smaller coops and costs $60 plus shipping. The small rat proof treadle chicken feeder should feed four birds for twelve days, just under two weeks. The approximate assembled size is 18" deep x 10" wide x 19" tall. When you are ready to purchase add the item to your cart and then scroll down to find the PayPal icon to automatically insert your shipping information. You will need to add your daytime phone number for FedEx Ground. The feeder in the photo has the treadle link wire temporarily installed for pictures, it is sticking out and not bent under and clipped off. Click on Feature 8 for a detailed description on how to train your birds. For more information on the feeders visit our main chicken feeder web page

We have a lot of customer submitted videos too that show the feeders in use, most from customers with feeders that are two, even three years old.

Excellent!
Now that my girls have finally learned to use the feeder, I couldn't be more pleased. They were a bit slower than it seems a lot of other flocks were to catch on to the concept, so it took a few days for all of them to get the hang of it. My girls really love oatmeal so I used that as a incentive to get them more motivated. You really have to make sure they are HUNGRY as the instructions state. I had a bit of a hard time with that at first bc I will admit, I think of my girls as a part of the family so I felt bad keeping them locked up with no food. Likely had I done this right from the get-go they would have caught on quicker. I still have one that just kind of stands and stares, and just waits for one of the braver girls to get on. Then she just eats from the side. I regret not getting the medium sized one. I only have a flock of 4, and limited space which was my motivation for ordering the small, but now I really wish I would have gone for the bigger size after I see how 2 of them like to eat at the same time. My only critique would be to have clearer instructions for someone like me who isnt very handy. The wordy-ness of the instructions were a bit difficult to follow, perhaps pull them out into bullet points and list by step number? Also the pictures were difficult to see, and I would appreciate more visuals to guide me. Other than that an outstanding product and I no longer see my little rat friend roaming my back yard. I was very against using any type of poision to get rid of him, and just wanted him to leave on his own accord, and it seems he has!
