This is the conversion kit to turn any of our older counterweight model chicken feeders into the new dual spring no counterweight version. It consists of an adjuster kit and three springs. Remove the top front cover using #2 square drive screwdriver bit. Drill the holes in the door shown in the picture on this product page. You can ignore the top holes in the picture, this spring adjuster kit replaces those holes with the adjustment bolt and clips. The top clip will need pried apart with a screwdriver so you can slip it over the top of the feed tray. Insert the long end of the springs into the door holes, the short end of the springs into the lower clip on the adjuster, pull the top clip up and hook it over the top of the feed tray. Then squeeze it down tight using a pair of pliers.
Adjust the bolt with two wrenches or a socket for the top and a wrench for the bottom. You need enough tension to close the door and lift the treadle, start by leaving maybe 1 inch between the two clips. If you already have huge rats or squirrels, set the spring tension as tight as you can but still allow your hens to use the feeder.
Since springs are wear items and the springs are working much harder on this design, you will need to replace springs when they break. The kit comes with one extra, when you use it I would order another three pack of springs ASAP so you are ready for any broken springs.
The product video shows the older dual spring without the infinite adjuster, just some holes drilled in the top of the feed tray. This version is even easier to install.
